<p>A reactor to be used for the exothermic reaction of a mixed gas consisting of a plurality of elements in the presence of a solid catalyst. Conventional reactors of the kind described above involve the problems that it is difficult to maintain an optimal temperature for an exothermic reaction, and the reactors are not economical. The reactor of the present invention has a construction such that center pipes are disposed in a plurality of reaction pipes of the reactor, a catalyst is packed into annular spaces between these pipes, an unreacted feed gas is caused to flow from the lower portion of the center pipes to the upper portion and is then mixed with an unreacted feed gas having a lower temperature than the former, and the mixed gas is introduced downward from the upper portion into the catalyst layer. Due to the construction described above, the present invention can effect an exothermic reaction while maintaining the optimal temperature, and can obtain economical advantages. The present invention can be applied to those reactors which effect the exothermic reaction of a mixed gas consisting of a plurality of elements, such as for the synthesis of methanol.</p> |
