The solution according to the invention is preferably used in dressing and straightening lines of roller mills for reprocessing residual lengths to form standard lengths. The aim is to increase the yield of quality tubes. The object of the invention is to provide a cross transfer which, by the arrangement of an incorporated second technological line, permits technological operations for the achievement of a set value irrespective of the normal cross transfer. The round material (17) in bar form arriving on the feed grid (1) is taken up by the rotating feeder (2), during which process the actual value of the material is sensed, and transferred to the delivery grid (4). If the round material (17) in bar form has the set value, the gate (5) remains closed and normal cross transfer into the trough (16) takes place. If the round material (17) in bar form is outside the set value, the gate (5) is opened and the material (17) is transferred to the second technological line (6) situated underneath. Here, the required operations to achieve the set value are carried out in parallel with the normal cross transfer. The finished material is then fed back to the original cross transfer at the same point. <IMAGE>
