The application relates to a single-arm windscreen wiper system for vehicles whose wiper arm passes over different angular regions at different speeds. In order, in such a system, to optimise the viewing conditions on the driver's side of the vehicle, there is provision according to the invention for the windscreen wiper system to be switchable in such a way that the area of the window which is located in front of the driver's position is brushed by the wiper arm at a lower speed than the area of the window located in front of the front seat passenger's position.
