The sprocket offset occurring in electromechanical counters, which is damaging to the read out, can be effectively eliminated by firmly mounting an additional blocking member 41 on the side of the armature plate 12 facing the sprockets 15 and their stepping drives 26, which blocking member temporarily engages at least one guide web 42 at the tip area 43 of the two adjacent driving teeth 28, 29, in order to bring the drive 26 into a defined position when the armature plate 12 moves into its rest position and, as a result, to align the corresponding sprocket 15. One such guide web 42 can be provided for each individual drive or for each second or third drive 26. To allow the drives 26 full freedom of movement as long as the armature plate 12 is not in its rest position, the guide web 42 can have a front edge part 46 domed in a trough shape between two alignment edge parts interacting with the tip areas 43 of the drive teeth 28 and 29. <IMAGE>
