The roofing material comprises a carrier (2), consisting of glass fibre web or the like, which is bituminised and provided with an upper (3) and a lower (4) layer of bitumen. The underside is partly covered with adhesion-preventing material (5) such as gravel or foil and is in contact with the surface (1) on which the roofing material is laid. At least the lower layer (4) consists wholly or partly of self-adhesive bitumen whilst at least the portions of this layer not covered by the material (5) form the underside connectable with the surface (1). The roofing material may contain spaced portions (6) filled with bitumen which extend to the underside and have at least their lowermost parts consisting of self-adhesive bitumen (In fig. 1 these portions are integral with the upper layer 3).
