Disclosed is an image compression method, wherein the method comprises: respectively performing image quality evaluation on n compressed images obtained by respectively adopting n groups of different quality factors to perform joint photographic experts group (JPEG) image compression on an original image, so as to obtain n groups of quality evaluation scores; performing function fitting by utilizing the n groups of quality evaluation scores and the corresponding quality factors, so as to obtain a function relationship between the quality evaluation scores and the quality factors; calculating a target quality factor corresponding to a target quality score by utilizing the function relationship between the quality evaluation scores and the quality factors; and determining an optimal quality factor according to the target quality factor, and performing the JPEG image compression on the original image again by utilizing the optimal quality factor.
