PURPOSE:To attain reduction easily independently of the paper feeding direction due to paper size by adopting the constitution that dot data by one page is read and reduced while being switched in longitudinal/lateral direction depending on the presence of a reduction command from a host device. CONSTITUTION:Transfer data from a host device 1 is expanded into bit data by a data expansion section 22 and stored in a memory 24. On the other hand, a reduction command signal 3' is stored in a storage section 28 and when data by one page is stored in the memory 24, storage data 7' is outputted by a command signal 6' from the output control section 26. A longitudinal/lateral read control section 29 receiving the data 7' reads the data stored in the memory 24 longitudinally and sends the result as lateral print data to a print mechanism 27. Further, the period of a video signal is switched into a period corresponding to the reduction size by a switch section 25 and the result is sent to the print mechanism section 27.
