Device for preventing overflows from containers having a drainage system. The invention relates to a device making it possible to cut off the supply of liquid automatically when it reaches a predetermined height in the container. It consists of a compartment 1 containing a float 2 surmounted by a valve whose head is outside the compartment. Sealing of the upper side is ensured by a shoulder of the valve stem. A liquid supply coming from the container, and a smaller outlet connected to the drain are under the float. The valve head in the bottom position is surrounded with liquid but is outside the current of the liquid. When the liquid causes the float to rise, the valve head arrives in the current which flattens it against its seat, which cuts off the flow to the container. When the supply taps are closed, the liquid which flows out via a groove in the stem of the valve in the compartment, releases its pressure under the valve, the float is no longer supported by the liquid, and the valve returns to its bottom position. When the taps are opened again the liquid arrives in the container. The device is particularly intended for sanitary appliances. <IMAGE>
