A sensing device for the travel control of webs comprises probes (20, 21) provided with sensors, a control unit (30, 31) in each case connected to the probes (20, 21) and an actuator (22, 26) connected to the control unit (30, 31) in each case, the actuator (22) varying the travel of the web (11) via a controlling element (23) and the actuator (26) varying the position of the probe (20). Said sensing device is designed according to the invention such that it is simple in construction and economical to produce and its individual measurement and control units, which are independent of one another, can be used spatially independently. For this purpose, two path transducers (24, 25) are provided which are connected to one another via a control amplifier (32), the control amplifier (32) being connected to a further actuator (26). <IMAGE>
