Echoes are received by a transducer and pulsed Doppler signals are derived by a phase detector. Clutter is eliminated to produce a Doppler shift signal for a second phase detector. The echoes from two internal portions of the patient are sampled at intervals, and calculated are the phase differences between every two echoes from these portions sampled at identical instant. The phase difference signals perform brightness modulation of a TV monitor display.
