Since cooker plates and bottoms of saucepans do not have flat surfaces, there is a hollow space between them. Consequently, the heat cannot flow over the entire area directly from the cooker plate to the saucepan, as a result of which a large amount of energy is lost. If a metal disc into which knobs are punched is placed between the cooker plate and the saucepan, the heat can flow directly via the projecting knobs over the entire surface, and thus far less energy is lost and the cooking operation also begins more quickly. The same saving effect can also be achieved with a metal pad, which is filled with a liquid, or a soft disc which fills the hollow space.
