A device for shutting off a pipeline, especially a drinking-water line, comprises a control body (1) and a spring-loaded control bush (20) which is axially displaceable thereon between a flow position and an interruption position. The control body (1) is of tubular construction at both ends, has lateral perforations (13, 14) on both sides of an axially closed centre section (2) and has an input-side connecting part (8) and an output-side connecting part (10) on its ends. A pressure-loaded outer housing is thus superfluous in that a perforation (14) on the input side opens into a compression space (29) which is formed between the control body (1) and control bush (20) and is bounded in the axial direction by mutually opposite axial end surfaces of the control body (1) and control bush (20), the end surface being produced by a cross-sectional discontinuity between the input-side tubular section (5) and the centre section (2) of the control body (1). The water pressure is bounded, irrespective of the position of the control bush (20), on the outwardly sealed compression space (29) which is formed between said control bush (20) and the control body (1). <IMAGE>
