The invention relates to a polymerisation initiator prepared by reacting a) a hydroxyl-containing (co)polymer Ap(OH)q, where A is a polymer or copolymer, p is the degree of polymerisation of from 5 to 5000, and q is an integer from 1 to 10, with b) an organometallic compound of the formula R<1>lR<2>mR<3>nMeXy where R<1>, R<2> and R<3> may be identical or different and are each alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl or aryl radicals having 4 to 12 carbon atoms or combinations of the above radicals with one another, Me is Mg2+, Zn<2+> or Al<3+>, and where the indices l, m and n may each be 0 or 1, and furthermore SIGMA l + m + n = 1,2 or 3, X is chlorine or bromine and y can be 0, 1 or 2, in the presence of an inert solvent at temperatures of -20 DEG C to 120 DEG C and at residence times of from 1 minute to 5 hours under shear conditions known per se (stirring) in the presence of inert gases in a molar ratio, based on the OH groups of a), (aOH/b) of from 1:1 to 3:1.
