In conveying installations with a conveyor belt which is guided closed in sections in the form of tubes to give a circular cross-section, the constant reshaping of the endlessly circulating belt is a recurrently critical operation which makes great demands on the design of the carrying and guiding structure. The invention provides essential simplifications by means of an asymmetrical arrangement, in terms of the belt cross-section, of the reinforcing inserts, embedded in the transverse direction, and the utilisation, made possible as a result, of the shrinkage effect which results in a latent tendency of the belt edges to roll up. The same effect can also be achieved by incorporating two transverse inserts in symmetrical arrangement in the surface layers of the belt, when the shrinkage behaviour of each of the two inserts is matched to each other in a manner appropriate for their purpose.
