PURPOSE:The reaction of a halonitrobenzene with a sodium salt of nitrophenol is carried out in a specific solvent to produce the titled substance which is used as a starting substance for synthesizing diaminodiphenyl ether, a synthetic intermediate of agricultural chemicals, at low temperature in a short time. CONSTITUTION:The reaction of a halonitrobenzene of formula I (X is halogen; R is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, carboxy; m is 1-4) with a sodium salt of nitrophenol of formula II (R' is H, alkyl, alkoxy, carboxyl, cyano; n is 1-4) or a mixture of a nitrophenol of formula III with an alkaline sodium compound, is carried out in a solvent of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and 1,3-dimethyl-2- imidazolidinone at 100-200 deg.C to give a compound of formula IV. The amount of the solvent used in the reaction is preferably 0.2-20 times the total amount of the starting substances.
