A cam arrangement in a single-cylinder, double feed, circular hosiery knitting machine is adapted to knit plain, tuck and reinforced structures by rotary knitting and to knit heels reciprocatorily in two knitting feeds. Needle raising cams (9,13) are provided between symmetrical stitch cams (6,7,10,11) and a further raising cam (14) before the second feed. During reciprocatory knitting the needles follow the paths X,Y in respective directions. For rotary knitting the stitch cams (7,11) are inactive and cams (9,14) raise the needles to clearing height for plain knitting. For tuck patterning the needles are selectively lifted by means of jacks, cams (20,22) making a tuck selection while cams (19,23) raise the jacks and needles to clear. For reinforced stitch patterning of the second feed the jacks are selected so that some needles are raised by cam (13) and sole by cam (14). Float patterning is effected by means of jack raising cams (19,23). <IMAGE>
