The pump rotor 4 is eccentrically mounted within a cylindrical housing 1 and has a plurality of radially extending slots 12a, 12b, 12c each accommodating a slidable vane 11a, 11b, 11c which moves under centrifugal force when the rotor 4 rotates, towards the circumferential inner srface of the housing 1. Pins 13 in the vanes 11a, 11b, 11c engage slots (15a), 15b in the axial end walls of the housing to prevent the tips of the vanes from making sliding contact with the facing circumferential inner surface of the housing and thereby reducing wear. Various forms and arrangements of the vane pins and housing slots and also various vane and guide constructions are disclosed. <IMAGE>
