The invention relates to a multi-purpose car bed which in motor vehicles is placed and/or laid directly above the backrests and, if required, can be provided as a restricting means with side clips which can be plugged on and further additional devices. With beds of this type the clearance in motor vehicles above the seat regions is made good use of as a resting position for the vehicle occupants and/or optionally for the purpose of storing small and larger luggage items and articles to be transported. Moreover, there is also the possibility for using it outside the vehicle, as a bed, table and seat. The construction of the multi-purpose bed in standard format can be carried out within the vehicle merely by pushing together two parts or is optionally possible as a further embodiment by folding the two parts in and out. The length of the parts are dimensioned such that they are matched to the size of the boot, for storage. The advantages obtained with the invention consist in particular in that when the driver shows signs of fatigue he/she can now adopt a reclining rest position comfortably and at any time. Accidents which experience has shown to be attributable in a high percentage of cases to overtiredness would be reduced and journeys to hotels for overnight stays (which are not always possible) could be avoided, thus saving time and money.
