The present invention relates to a rehydrating composition and a complement for its preparation. The rehydrating composition comprises: lactose or a lactose-based product; and a complement containing chloride, acetate and or propionate anions and sodium, potassium and/or magnesium cations. The composition is applied especially to the feeding of young ruminants and piglets which can no longer digest milk normally.
