PURPOSE:To prevent clogging of an active carbon layer by housing tablets contg. effective chlorine in a body space. CONSTITUTION:Water flow pipes 2a, 2b are connected to an upper chamber and lower chamber in a device body 1. The active carbon layer 4 is provided by holding plates 3, 3' between the upper and lower water flow pipes 2a, 2b. A water permeable holder 6 is provided above the active carbon layer 4 and the tablets 5 of sodium hypochlorite contg. the effective chlorine are housed in the holder 6. Propagation of microorganisms in the active carbon layer is thereby prevented and an always satisfactory water treatment is carried out.
