PURPOSE:To prevent the tip of an original from entering a gap by providing 1st driving parts which drives an engagement guide part to and away from the end surface of an original platen and a 2nd driving parts which elevate and lower the engagement guide part from and to the original setting surface of the original platen. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with the 1st driving parts 10 and 11 which drive the engagement guide part 4 to and away from the end surface 2 of the original plate 1 and the 2nd driving parts 12 and 13 which elevate and lower the engagement guide part 4 from and to the original setting surface 1a of the original platen 1. When an original is positioned at a specified position for copying operation, the engagement surface 3 of the engagement guiding part 4 is pressed against the end surface 2 of the original platen 1 and floated above the original setting surface 1a by a proper quantity to securely engage the original. Further, when the original is discharged from on the original platen 1 after the copying operation, the engaging surface 3 of the engagement guide part 4 is pressed against the end surface while lowered below the original surface 3 and no gap is formed, so the tip of the original is guided by the engagement guide part 4 without falling in a gap. Consequently, there is not any danger that the tip of the original enters the gap between the original platen and feed member and is folded.
