PURPOSE:To demodulate a chrominance signal excellently by deciding the optimum chroma signal separated based on a color burst signal of the separated chroma signal or the ratio of combination, selecting any chroma signal or synthesizing it so as to form an output chroma signal. CONSTITUTION:In adopting the generating system of the clock signal decided independently of the phase of the chrominance signal, the level and phase of the color burst signal of the separated chrominance signal vary with jitter or the like. The quantity of fluctuation depends on the separation system. Then a selection control means 4 decides the optimum chrominance signal based on the color burst signal of the chroma signals CC, CF from plural separation means 2, 3 or decides the ratio of synthesis of the chroma signals CC, CF and the chroma signal output means generates the chroma signal based on the decision and then outputted. Thus, even if the clock signal is formed independently of the phase of the chroma signal, excellent chroma signal is separated and outputted.
