PURPOSE:To immediately transfer information to a host device, by using an alternate information buffer, and transferring the information of the alternate sector of a buffer when a request to transfer the information of the alternate sector is issued. CONSTITUTION:When an instruction to read the information of designated track number and sector number from the host device is issued by a processor 7 via an interface 3, a disk 1 sends read information to a demodulation circuit 2. The processor 7 reads an ID part at a circuit 4, and compares the track number and the sector number with those in a RAM 9. When no coincidence is obtained, the read information is passed to a demodulation circuit 6 and an error correction/detection circuit 5, and sends the information 30 of an information part 33 from a transfer circuit 10 to the host device. When the coincidence is obtained, it means that the read information is incorrect, then, the processor 7 makes a control circuit 6 read the information of the alternate sector in the buffer 8 by issuing the instruction to a corresponding sector, and makes the circuit send the information to the transfer circuit 10. The circuit 10 sends the information 30 of the information part 33 of the alternate sector to the host device by switching a bus by the processor 7. Thereby, no seek time or rotation waiting time is required, and the information of the alternate sector can be transferred immediately.
