PURPOSE:To facilitate a discrimination and diagnosis operations by emphasizing the fine change of a color, by mounting a histogram equalization processing means for taking the histograms of either one of or three kinds of hue image data, saturation image data and brightness image data calculated from an original image and performing the rearrangement of data so as to make the average frequency of each value almost constant. CONSTITUTION:When the original image of an objective area such as cancer sent from the solid image pickup element camera 16 provided to the leading end part of the probe 15 introduced into the body cavity is being displayed on a color display 14, the freeze switch of the image is pushed to fix the image and, when histogram processing is indicated by a control console 10, the image data concerned taken in R-, G- and B-image memories 2-4 is converted by an RGB hue/saturation/brightness converting part 5 to be stored in a hue image H-memory 6, a saturation image S-memory 7 and a brightness image V-memory 8. Then, according to the indication content from the control console 10, either one of or several kinds of hue, saturation and brightness are subjected to histogram equalization processing by a histogram processing part 9.
