PURPOSE:To obtain a drug for external use, containing kojic acid purified by a sublimation method as an active ingredient, having excellent coloring stability and useful for suppressing melanization. CONSTITUTION:A drug for external use obtained by cultivating a strain, belonging to the genuses Aspergillus, Penicillium, Escherichia, Acetobacter, etc., and having the ability to produce kojic acid and obtaining unpurified kojic acid from the culture fluid, subliming the resultant unpurified kojic acid while heating under ordinary or reduced pressure and blending the resultant purified kojic acid in an amount of 0.01-5.0wt.% in a drug for external use.
