PURPOSE:To improve the water leaking property of a contact lens without deteriorating the oxygen permeability, optical characteristic, and mechanical property of the material of the lens by bringing the contact lens into contact with the processing soln. contg. a hydrophilic monomer and a photosensitizer selected from aromatic ketones and quinones, and projecting UV rays. CONSTITUTION:A contact lens is brought into contact with the processing soln. contg. a hydrophilic monomer and >=1 kind of photosensitizers selected from aromatic ketones or quinones, an inert gas is introduced into the soln. to exclude dissolved oxygen, and UV rays are projected for about 10min. By this method, the surface of the lens is made hydrophilic without adding any special component to the material of the lens, and an excellent water leaking property can be imparted to the lens with a simple treating device without deteriorating the oxygen permeability, optical characteristic, and mechanical property of the material.
