PURPOSE:To quickly and automatically change a punch and to improve the operation rated of a heading machine by providing the punch automatic changing unit in specified structure at the upper part of the heading machine in the case of changing a punch in the heading machine. CONSTITUTION:A punch automatic changing unit 2 is provided at the upper part of the cold heading machine 1 for a thread consisting of a double stroke cold header. In the case of the finishing punch 7 of the heading machine 1 being worn and broken the chucking mechanism 28 standing by at a punch storing place 32 in the changing unit 2 is moved at the front of a punch holder 5 with its being emptied to release the locking by drawing a locking pin 21 out of the fitting hole of the punch 7. The projecting rod 17 at the die holder 10 sides in then projected to fetch the finished punch 7 worn by releasing the lock from a set hole 19. The chuck mechanism 28 then returns to the punch storing 32, moved to the front face of the punch holder 5 by gripping a new finishing punch 7 and locked to the set hole of the punch holder 5 to automatically change the finishing punch 7.
