PURPOSE:To manufacture a joined-type fibrous formed body for fiber-reinforced member for connecting rod for internal combustion engine, by connecting an annular fibrous molded body and a semiannular fibrous molded body to both ends of a bar-shaped fibrous molded body, respectively, by means of binder are then by applying calcining to the above. CONSTITUTION:Long fibers composed of stainless steel or carbon are inserted, in a unidirectionally arranged state, together with a binder into a tubular metal mold and heated up to 400 deg.C in an inert-gaseous atmosphere of Ar, etc., so as to be formed into a bar-shaped fibrous molded body 1. Subsequently, the bar-shaped fibrous molded body 1 is held between the upper mold 51 and lower mold 52 of an annular body-forming mold 5 preheated to 600 deg.C, and one end is plunged into a cavity 6. Then, in a state where a pressurizing punch 7 is drawn out of the upper mold 51, the cavity 6 is filled with SiC whiskers to which binder is added, and pressure is applied by means of the punch 7, by which a part of the bar-shaped fibrous molded body 1 is wrapped with an annular fiber body 21 to undergo compression molding so as to be integrated into one body. Similarly, a semiannular molded body 22 composed of SiC whiskers is compression-molded, which is heated up to 900 deg.C in an Ar atmosphere and connected to the other end of the bar-shaped fibrous molded body 1, so that a joined-type fiber-reinforcement formed body F1 for connecting rod can be manufactured.
