PURPOSE:To reduce the aging change, simplify the drive circuit, and facilitate the full-color display by providing multiple luminescent layers for various colors via insulating layers on a transparent substrate and selectively changing the number of the luminescent layers to be applied with the AC voltage. CONSTITUTION:Two luminescent layers 41, 42; 51, 52; and 61, 62 indicating the red color, green color, and blue color respectively are provided via insulating layers 3 on transparent electrodes 2 on a glass substrate 1. The AC voltage is applied to red, green, and blue luminescent units 11a-13a with AC power supplies 81, 82; 91, 92: and 101, 102 respectively. The luminance of each color is changed by selectively applying the AC voltage to the layers 41-62.
