PURPOSE:To sufficiently fix various transfer materials by a simple operation, by controlling a transfer material carrying speed of a fixing device and a transfer material carrying device in accordance with the paper quality, especially, the paper thickness. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with a carrying device 30 for carrying a transfer material P to a position of a fixing device 40 from a transfer position of an image forming medium 1, detecting means 22, 24 for discriminating a kind of the transfer material P, and a control means for controlling a transfer material carrying speed of at least the transfer material carrying device 30 and the fixing device 40 by a signal from the detecting means 22, 24. This control means switches the transfer material carrying speed of at least the transfer material carrying device 30 and the fixing device 40 to a low speed, in case when a signal from the detecting means 22, 24 for showing a fact that the transfer material P is thick paper is received. In such a way, an image can be formed on various kinds of transfer materials by a simple operation, and also, without deteriorating the picture quality.
