PURPOSE:To improve the transmission efficiency of picture information by sending a caller telephone number from a caller side after picture information is sent to the called party, commanding the polling transmission and allowing the called party to send the picture information whose received telephone number is designated as the transmission destination in response to the polling command to the caller. CONSTITUTION:After picture information is sent to the called party, the caller side sends a caller side telephone number and the called party sends the picture information to which the received telephone number is designated as the transmission destination to the caller side. Thus, when the other facsimile equipment makes a call to one facsimile equipment with high frequency of occurrence and the line is busy and not dialed, and when the former facsimile equipment dials the other, since the picture information from the other is sent, the case that the picture information is not sent is less. Thus, in case of line connection once, since the picture information is exchanged between the both, the picture information is efficiently transmitted.
