A device is provided having a proximal portion and a distal portion. An ultrasound transducer is disposed within the distal portion, wherein the transducer is configured to scan tissue and detect certain portions of a patent's anatomy during the scanning process.

1. A device for minimally invasive surgery, the device comprising:
a proximal portion; a distal portion; a main body formed between the proximal and distal portions of the device having a longitudinal axis; and at least two ultrasound transducers disposed at the distal portion of the main body, where at least one of the transducers is angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the main body where the at least one transducer is configured to scan a region that extends at least partially radially away from the longitudinal axis of the main body.
