The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for adhesively bonding foamed or felt-like layers of soft material onto three-dimensionally curved sheet-metal components, in particular vehicle body parts. In order to ensure reliable, mutual pressing together of the parts to be bonded, even without great mechanical effort, the gap between the sheet-metal component and the layer of soft material is evacuated so that the contact force can be applied by the ambient air pressure. For this purpose, the layer of soft material is sealed off along the entire outer edge towards the sheet-metal component and is moreover provided with a smooth and flexible skin which is closed in an air-impermeable manner. So that the vacuum can spread out uniformly within the area to be bonded, the contact side of the layer of soft material is provided with a surface-covering channel structure of open grooves. The associated manipulating device has a plurality of suction nozzles which correspond with insert openings in the layer of soft material and can be connected to a vacuum source or can be separated therefrom. The manipulating device furthermore has a pressure pad which runs along the circumferential contour of the layer of soft material, corresponds to the dimensional shape of the sheet-metal component and is intended for the pressing on of the sealing strip.
