The invention lies in the sector of remote localisation of mobiles. The method according to the invention, in which the position of a mobile is linked to the activity of identified telephone relays, is essentially characterised in that a memory for the identification data and for the profiles of curves of measured fields of the said relays is built in advance for a fixed base, through specified geographical slices by performing a journey over the said slices, the same type of data is recorded continuously 13 on the mobile, during its journey, a continual updating of these data is performed on the mobile by preserving in memory the elements relating to a latest specified time period and the mobile is interrogated from the fixed base, by means of which the said mobile transmits 11 the contents of the latest elements recorded over the said time period, and which are compared in the fixed base with the contents of the memory of the latter, then reading is performed of the comparison indicating by coincidence the localisation sought.
