The printing head has a recording pen moved across the surface of the recording sheet in dependance on data provided by an input device. Erasure pen movement is controlled by a data store holding the character data previously recorded by the recording pen, so that it traces the movement of the latter. The printing head incorporates a further recording pen using ink which is not effected by the erasure fluid to allow it to write over an erased character.
