The system has a presser foot operating unit to activate a presser foot and bear it against the fabric. The brake operating unit stops the vertical motion of the needle. The control unit is operated when the needle is in the upper position in the final sewing stage to operate the brake unit for a given duration so that the presser foot unit can be released. Specifically the control unit operates a thread stripper during a period which is delayed immediately after the braking action has started and the presser foot control has been released.
