A process for the formation of the positive and negative plates, which are provided with active paste consisting, at least essentially, of lead oxide, of lead-acid batteries involves arranging the plates in an electrolyte consisting of dilute sulphuric acid and a charging current flowing between the positive and negative plates through the electrolyte until the lead oxide in the positive plate has essentially been oxidised to lead dioxide and in the negative plate has essentially been reduced to lead sponge. The formation is effected, according to the invention, with the electrolyte temperature being limited to a maximum value of approximately 55@C, a first formation step involving essentially limiting the current and a second formation step involving limiting the voltage to a value which virtually rules out gas generation. <IMAGE> |
