[Problem] To provide a backlight device for a liquid crystal display device, said backlight device being capable of suppressing the occurrence of power losses in any of the light-emitting bodies, as well as to provide a liquid crystal display device provided therewith. [Solution] Positioned in a cluster 161 are: two magenta light-emitting bodies 131, each including a blue light-emitting element 143 with a high driving voltage and a red fluorescent body 151 covering said blue light-emitting element 143; two green light-emitting bodies 132; and one blue light-emitting body 133. Because two blue LED elements 143 are thus also mounted in the two magenta light-emitting bodies 131, the driving voltages of the magenta light-emitting bodies 131 are substantially equivalent to those of the green light-emitting bodies 132 and the blue light-emitting body 133.
