OPTICAL RECORDER PROVIDED DIGITAL INFORMATION SIGNAL

The method of recording a binary information signal on a data storage medium uses an active layer responding to radiation to permit recording of data by control of the incident radiation by generating radiation pulses of fixed intensity and duration at controlled intervals. The binary data stream is converted to a binary modulted signal using Miller modulation which permits only 2,3 or 4 bit cells per binary interval. To increase the data storage density the recording radiation is modulated to produce an impulse between the bit cells of the Miller encoded signal, thus generating one impulse for 2 bits, 2 for 3 bits, and 3 for 4 bits.
