WORK CENTERING MECHANISM FOR CHUCK

PURPOSE: To automatically center a workpart with ease by providing a means to detect the extent of the eccentricity of the workpart as a centering member moves the workpart and move the centering member toward the axis of the rotation of a chuck until the extent of this eccentricity reaches a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION: A centering member 52 is provided which is movable toward the rotary axis of a chuck 10 as a workpart is rotated and engageable with the workpart to move the geometrical shaft of the workpart with an eccentric passage varied as the workpart moves. The extent of the eccentric movement of the workpart is detected by a detection means 100 as this centering member 52 moves the workpart, and this extent is output. The centering member 52 is moved toward the rotary axis of the chuck 10 by a servo motor 86 until the detected extent of eccentric movement reaches the value indicative that the workpart is actually rotated around its axis.
