Process for the anaerobic purification of waste and process water during which biogas containing H2S is produced. H2S in biogas is very corrosive. Previously known processes for depletion of H2S in the biogas use an oxidant, for example iron oxide. The regeneration of the iron oxide is brought about by (atmospheric) oxygen. Metering of the oxygen is critical. In accordance with the invention, the task of offering a non-critical process for H2S depletion is achieved by arranging that the biogas depleted in the parallel-operated reactor is recirculated into the anaerobic section and used there as a stripping gas. There, neither a pH adjustment nor the use of precipitants nor an additional supply of oxygen is necessary.

|
