A device for damping noises and/or pressure surges in a liquid, which is intended in particular for sanitary installations, comprises a plurality of diaphragms which jointly enclose a standard air volume in a housing. Each of these diaphragms forms an oscillating system with the air volume common to all the diaphragms. However, the resonant frequencies of all the individual systems are different due to a different choice of the frequency-determining parameters manifested on the diaphragms. The entire device is installed in a liquid path in such a way that all the diaphragms can receive an incident flow of the liquid. This device damps noises in a particularly broadband fashion and can also be used to damp pressure surges ("water surges") (Figure 1). <IMAGE>
