In a cuboid container, which is preferably suitable for receiving refuse and has an aperture arranged at one end face, preferably serving the purpose of filling and capable of being closed by a flap or a lid, this lid is to be capable of movement, with a low space requirement, between an opening and a closing position. To this end, the outer ends of parallel connecting rods (5', 6') are articulated on the lateral edges of the lid (4), the inner ends of the said connecting rods being mounted on bolts (8, 11) or pins connected to the container side walls (7), and an actuating device for pivoting the lid (4) between its closing and opening positions and a locking arrangement for locking the lid (4) in the closing position are provided. As a result of the parallel connecting rods, the lid is guided at four points so that in its closing position, with appropriate locking, it can advantageously absorb forces acting upon it from the inside, caused by the charged material. Automatic opening of the container lid, for example as a consequence of forces acting thereon during container transport, in the event of braking and acceleration, is excluded (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
