In order to manufacture identity cards or similar data media which are laminated with a film material, a strip-shaped support material (10) is prepared on which successive data blocks are contained, which are punched out at a punching station (12) from the support material (10) which is moved cyclically. For the precise positioning of the data blocks in the punching station (12), an advancing unit (28) and a sensor (22) are assigned to the punching station, the sensor being able to scan printed marks assigned to each data block, to issue a control command to a control unit (26), and thus to bring about the precise advance of each data block into the punching station (12). The support material (10) is laminated with a film material (16, 18). In an application station (36) arranged in front of the punching station (12), an adhesion promoter is applied to the support material. A sensor (46) and an advancing unit (56) are likewise assigned to the application station (36). The two sensors (22, 46) and the two advancing units (28, 56) are connected to the control unit (26) which, in response to control signals from the two sensors (22, 46), triggers advancing steps by the two advancing units (28, 56). When the first control signal is received by the sensor (22) assigned to the punching station (12), the sensor (46) assigned to the application station (36) is switched off. <IMAGE> |
