A full-mould casting process for manufacturing castings with internal high-temperature thermal insulation (2) permits rational, defect-free mass production of castings with low wall thicknesses and narrow tolerances. As the heat insulation (2) is impermeable to gas, however, the steam in the foam mould (11) cannot pass across the wall of the pattern. Because of the insulating effect of the high-temperature thermal insulation (2), the steam can be directed over the perimeter of the pattern and removed by suction on the opposite side while retaining sufficient heat in the region of the steam outlet for complete foaming.
