An article having a two-phase surface coating of low friction when wetted, said coating consisting of polyurethane and poly (N-vinyl lactam), the polyurethane and poly (N-vinyl lactam) each forming a separate phase and the poly (N-vinyl lactam) primarily forming the inner phase of the two-phase structure. In a method of preparing the article a coating composition is applied to the article, said coating composition consisting of polyurethane, poly (N-vinyl lactam) and a solvent system comprising at least two solvents of different volatility, the polyurethane being soluble in at least the mixture of solvents and in the least volatile solvent and the poly (N-vinyl lactam) being soluble in the most volatile solvent but only partly soluble in the least volatile solvent.
