Anti-skid chains for tyres comprise a retaining and tensioning device composed of a plurality of bows which are fastened to rubber belts and are fitted with the latter into the wheel rim. A disadvantage here is that the retaining and tensioning device protrudes far beyond the outside of the tyre and that its fitting is complex. In order to be able to arrange the retaining and tensioning device tightly against the tyre side wall, it is formed by at least one tensioning part which lies against the inside of the tyre and exerts a tensile force onto the tread part, the tensile force being directed towards the inside of the tyre. This retaining and tensioning device lies in a protected and space-saving manner on the inside of the tyre. The tensioning part also exerts a pretensioning force onto the tread part so that the tyre chain guarantees very quiet running. Due to the pretensioning force which the tensioning part exerts on the tread part, the anti-skid chain for tyres can easily be fitted in the exact position. The anti-skid chain for tyres is particularly suitable for tyres of passenger cars.
