A solid phase enzyme immunoassay for hepatitis B virus comprises (a) adsorbing HBsAg onto a polymeric solid support (i.e. polystyrene or polyvinyl chloride); (b) reacting with HBsAg in the test sample; (c) adding HBsAg conjugated to an enzyme, e.g. horseradish peroxidase; (d) detecting by use of O-phenylenediamine in the presence of H2O2.
