<p>A motorless carbonator including a single acting pneumatic water pump (10) connected between a carbonator tank (30) and an uncarbonated water supply (28) with the pump having a gas return spring (90) integral therewith. The pump is driven by the carbon dioxide (CO2) fed to the carbonator tank. A CO2 saving device (54) is coupled between the water pump and the carbonator tank and includes a spring biased diaphragm (58) connected to a piston rod (68) and an O-ring support member (66) which operates to control the venting of CO2 to the atmosphere so as to reduce the amount of CO2 required to operate the pump during both a pumping stroke and a return stroke.</p> |
