Gas desulphurisation using scrubbing medium - regenerated to give sulphur di:oxide used as heat carrier medium

In SO2 removal from gas mixts. using a regeneratable scrubbing medium in a scrubbing tower, the novelty is that SO2, recovered during regeneration of the scrubbing medium, is fed at least partially into a circuit for compression and alternate cooling and heating using this SO2 as heat carrier medium. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is esp. useful in SO2 scrubbing using a physical solvent, e.g. for treating fluc gases and Claus waste gases. Optimal SO2 scrubbing is achieved in a simple, reliable, inexpensive and energy-saving manner, without the need for a refrigerating unit and a dirty gas/clean gas heat exchanger.
